The Rio de Janeiro state federation, Ferj, confirmed the Campeonato Carioca semi-final schedule on Wednesday. Vasco will host Fluminense at Nilton Santos on Sunday 22 February at 18:00 after Flamengo declined to move their match to Monday.
The derby will not be staged at the Maracanã, because Flamengo also play on Sunday against Madureira. Ferj had proposed switching Flamengo to Monday night to free the venue, but the club rejected the change, so the opener goes to Botafogo’s ground.
The return leg is set for Sunday one March at 18:00 at the Maracanã, with Fluminense as the home side.
The competition’s current rules have removed the old draw advantage. If the aggregate score is level, the tie goes straight to penalties.
The other semi-final pits Madureira against Flamengo, with the first leg on Sunday 22 February at 20:30 and the second on Monday two March at 21:00, both at the Maracanã.
The final is scheduled for Sunday eight March, a single match at the Maracanã, with kick-off time to be confirmed. The champions will receive R$ 10 million.
