It will certainly give United confidence ahead of their opening Champions League match on Wednesday night against Valerenga.

Speaking after the match, manager Marc Skinner was also pleased with his team’s showing on a wet and windy Friday night.

Putting down a marker

Commenting to The BBC, Skinner claimed, “I want us to act like that. We want more. That’s what we breed into our players, we’re a team that’s hungry for success.”

He added, “I have been here a long time now and I want to make sure my team have that hunger when they enter the pitch.”

When asked if his side had put down a marker by playing so well against the champions he replied, “we are going to make sure we do that in every other game for sure as best we can. We will give absolutely everything.”

He also claimed that his side had sent a clear message to Chelsea that they are going to have to work their socks off to retain the Women’s Super League title this season.

Skinner asserted, “it shows to Chelsea they’re not just going to walk the league. We need to make sure everyone is putting a challenge in. I think the league is getting better and you saw the quality tonight that we are progressing too.”

Both teams can be proud

Reflecting on both sides’ effort in the match Skinner opined, “I thought it was two teams who wanted to win the game. High level with and without the ball. Probably a fair point in the end but it wasn’t for the lack of both teams trying to win it.”

He claimed his side were incredibly brave in the match and that you can clearly see what his young team are building towards.

Skinner concluded by stating they will enjoy the growth of the team as they take the point and move forward to a crucial week where they will face Norwegian side Valerenga on an historic night for the club in Europe on Wednesday night.
