Sevilla centre-back Marcao has been banned for six matches after his dismissal and subsequent outburst in the 2-0 defeat at Real Madrid.

The federation’s disciplinary committee announced the sanction, which followed his second yellow card in the 68th minute.

Four matches were imposed for insulting the referee, with one added for the sending-off and one for kicking the ball towards the stands.

After the red card, he moved towards referee Alejandro Muñiz Ruiz in a threatening manner and had to be ushered away by team-mates, then headed for the tunnel and kicked a ball near the fourth official’s area.

The punishment was applied under article 99 of the disciplinary code.
