Marcelo Bielsa has named Arrascaeta, De La Cruz and Guillermo Varela in his latest Uruguay squad, leaving Flamengo without the trio during the March international window.
The Uruguayan federation announced on social media on Monday 23 that the players are in the group to face England on Friday 27 and Algeria on 31 March.
Bielsa has also included Matías Viña, a familiar name for Flamengo fans. Although currently playing for River Plate in Argentina, the left back remains owned by the Rio club and is under contract until 2027.
As with their club, Arrascaeta, De La Cruz and Varela are frequently used at international level. The expectation is that Bielsa will continue to give them minutes and assess them in these final outings before confirming his 2026 World Cup squad.
While the trio are away, Flamengo’s squad will train ahead of their next assignment of the 2026 season. After days off on Monday 23 and Tuesday 24, the players report back on Wednesday 25 at CT Ninho do Urubu.
Flamengo’s next match is on 2 April against Red Bull Bragantino in the ninth round of the Brasileirão, with kick-off at 21h30 Brasília time at Estádio Cicero de Souza Marques in Bragança Paulista.
