Former Juventus and Italy midfielder Claudio Marchisio hopes that Juventus can add another forward to their ranks during the January transfer window, but has warned his former club that signing a player like Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee is ‘not always the right path to take’.
The Bianconeri have been linked with a loan move for the former Bologna striker, who has not quite hit form at Old Trafford in the same way that he did at the Dall’Ara last term following his big-money move during the summer transfer window.
A loan move to Turin would see Zirkzee reunited with his former Bologna coach Thiago Motta, and Juve are reportedly interested in a loan move given the lack of available budget to spend in January.
However, Marchisio has warned that a player in Zirkzee’s situation is ‘not always’ the right type of profile to go after.
He also suggested that Juventus need to have more faith in their current starting centre-forward Dusan Vlahovic, and also that he hopes to see Arkadiusz Milik back in a Juventus shirt in the near future.
“We’re talking about a player who has a lot of talent and showed it last year,” Marchsio told Tuttosport.
“It’s great when a player did well in a previous season with a specific coach, but not necessarily when the two go in different directions.
“Lots of times we try to get reuinte them and get them going again, but that doesn’t mean it’s the right path to take. We need to have faith in Vlahovic, who is still showing his talent. And we have to remember that he’s been doing it on his own.
“I hope that someone can arrive in January, including Milik returning to the pitch.”
