Marco Silva will assess João Rego’s situation during Benfica’s pre-season, which begins on 25 June, with the youngster included in the group and his future still open.

According to Glorioso 1904, the 20-year-old is under contract until 2030 with a 100 million euros release clause, and clubs from Spain, Italy, Germany and Türkiye have made exploratory contacts.

Featuring for Portugal at the Toulon Tournament, Rego has scored three goals in three matches, joint-top with Turki Al-Ghumayl of Saudi Arabia and only one behind Jocelin Ta Bi of Ivory Coast.

Those performances have heightened interest in a player viewed as one of his generation’s brightest talents. He made 14 first-team appearances for Benfica last season, starting two, and scored once.

Used mainly as a winger, some suitors believe he is best as a number 10, citing his creativity and decision-making. Developed at Seixal since 2018/19, a loan move was close in previous windows and remains on the table for next season.
