Marco Silva has emerged as Rui Costa’s preferred option for Benfica, with his future under the spotlight after weeks of speculation. The role would depend on José Mourinho’s position at the club.

The Guardian reports that the 48-year-old is viewed as the favourite to replace Mourinho, though there is no certainty he will leave Fulham. Recent rumours have suggested an agreement might be in place, but nothing has been confirmed.

A Bola has also stated that former Benfica defender Paulo Madeira, now an agent, attended a recent match at Craven Cottage to watch Fulham. The report indicated he could have been observing Silva.

Asked about the links in recent weeks, Silva said his future remained uncertain and that he would prioritise Fulham’s decision in the coming days.

Silva is among several candidates mentioned to succeed Mourinho, alongside Filipe Luís, Ruben Amorim and Xavi. Benfica are only expected to move for a new coach if the Special One departs.
