Marco Silva ‘to wait’ for reinforcements as Benfica tensions rise | OneFootball

Correio da Manhã reports that Marco Silva is angry with Rui Costa and Mário Branco over a shortage of signings, with the first leg of the Europa League second qualifying round against St. Gallen on 23 approaching.

On arrival, he knew several World Cup internationals would be absent at first, but he was told by Rui Costa and Mário Branco that reinforcements would arrive before the season started. So far only Gabriel Índio, Clément Lenglet and Jakub Kaminski have joined.

The coach wants greater urgency and has been personally involved in pursuits of Ibrahima Ba and João Palhinha. The Senegalese centre-back is now off the table, while talks for the midfielder are becoming more complicated.

Ba had been the priority for António Silva’s spot, with the defender leaving. Strasbourg offered superior financial terms and the transfer is almost complete.

Palhinha remains unresolved and, as time passes, interest from Juventus and more recently Aston Villa is adding difficulty. After the Flamengo defeat, Silva said the squad needed clear upgrades and that they would act, and he will now wait for further arrivals.
