Tottenham have strengthened their defence by signing Marcos Senesi on a free transfer from Bournemouth. The club said on Wednesday that the Argentina international has joined the north London side.

Tottenham’s rebuild continues following the arrival of Andrew Robertson, with Senesi added to play centrally. The 29-year-old has three caps for Argentina.

Senesi was an undisputed starter for the Cherries last season, playing 37 of 38 league matches, all from the start. Bournemouth qualified for the Europa League for the first time in their history.

It is a significant addition for Spurs, with Cristian Romero potentially leaving this summer and Micky Van de Ven’s future unclear.

Senesi said he wants to take the club back to where it belongs, after a season in which Tottenham narrowly avoided relegation. Spurs did not disclose the length of his contract, which is described as a long-term agreement.
