Enzo Maresca was full of praise for Marc Cucurella and hailed his intelligence after Chelsea’s win against Leicester.

The Blues made it back to win back league wins with a hard fought 1-0 victory against the Foxes, with Cucurella scoring the only goal of the game with a brilliant strike on the hour mark.

It could have been more comfortable for Maresca’s men had Cole Palmer not missed a first half penalty, but Leicester rarely threatened as Chelsea moved back into the top four.

Maresca praises Cucurella

It appeared as if it was going to be another frustrating afternoon for the Blues until Cucurella popped up on the hour mark, making it two goals in as many league matches.

The goal was celebrated by both the fans and Maresca on the touchline, with a journalist revealing what the Italian shouted at Chelsea fans as the players celebrated.

Cucurella has been in superb form this season and the turnaround from being booed in his first season to now being a fan favourite is quite remarkable.

The 26-year-old is in with a shout of being Chelsea’s player of the year, and few could argue if he were given that accolade.

The Spaniard is one of Chelsea’s most important players and Maresca was full of praise for the left back when speaking after the game.

“Marc scored already when Nico was there, Marc has something that is difficult to find. He is clever and is intelligent,” he told his post-match press conference.

“He scored two goals against Wolves and Brentford and he is probably the smallest one in the team and this showed you how intelligent he is because he is in the right position.

“He is playing like an attacking midfielder and is doing fantastic. He has scored four or five goals with us.”

You can’t argue with Maresca’s comments and the Blues will desperately hope Cucurella can stay fit for the remainder of the season as there’s no back-up left back in the squad currently.
