Enzo Maresca criticised the decision not to send off Jonathan Tah in Chelsea’s defeat to Bayern Munich.

The Blues were beaten 3-1 at the Allianz Arena after a Trevoh Chalobah own goal and Harry Kane double.

But Maresca was left feeling aggrieved that Tah was not shown a red card for an off the ball foul on Joao Pedro.

“For me, it’s a clear red card,” he said.

“I already said in the Premier League, when there is not an intention to go for the ball, the intention is just to kick a player, why is it not a red card?

“The referee said to me it was because it was not hard or aggressive enough.

“So to give the red card, they need to see blood? If the intention is to do that then it’s a red card.

“So for me, there is not any doubt.”

Maresca says he was pleased with Chelsea’s overall performance, however.

“We knew how difficult it was to come here against this team so we knew it was a very tough game, a very difficult game, but overall I think we compete very well,” he said.

The Italian head coach also provided an update on Cole Palmer’s fitness, with the attacker seen holding his groin late on having only recently returned from injury.

“Cole, I think is okay,” Maresca said. “I asked him at the end and he says he’s okay.”
