Mark van Bommel has rejected the chance to manage Celtic, according to Dutch outlet De Telegraaf.
Celtic appointed Martin O’Neill on an interim basis after Brendan Rodgers left the club, and Van Bommel was ap[proached.
However, the 48-year-old has told Bhoys he has no plans to return to management right now for family reasons.
Rangers were also linked with Van Bommel, who won the Belgian Pro League, Belgian Cup and Belgian Super Cup with Royal Antwerp in 2023.
However, talks were not held with the Dutchman and they appointed Danny Rohl.
Van Bommel could have been open to taking the Celtic job but he wants to stay close to his son, Ruben, who is currently recovering following cruciate ligament surgery.
The PSV Eindhoven winger could be out for several months, and his father wants to support him during the early months of his recovery.
However, Van Bommel is not ruling out returning to the dugout next season. Clubs from the Middle East have also approached him, but he could prefer to remain in Europe.
Celtic insist O’Neill is only a temporary solution, but they could give him the job until the end of the campaign if he keeps impressing.
The 73-year-old started his second stint with a 4-0 victory over Falkirk at on Wednesday before helping them reach the Scottish League Cup final with a 3-1 win over Rangers on Sunday.
They return to action on Thursday when they visit Midtjylland in their fourth game of their Europa League campaign, and a win would come in handy as they eye a place in the knockout stage.
