Olympique de Marseille are preparing to open discussions with Brighton & Hove Albion over a permanent January transfer for midfielder Matt O’Riley, according to a Sky Sports News report.
Marseille are reportedly aware of increasing interest in the 24-year-old from top clubs across Europe and are looking to get ahead of the competition by pushing early in the winter window. O’Riley has settled well in Marseille, playing in 10 Ligue 1 matches already this season and making four Champions League outings for Les Phocéens so far this season. The Danish international signed on loan in the summer, with no option to buy. “He’s a player we were following along with Medhi Benatia for a while, he’s played very well for Celtic as well as for Brighton,” said De Zerbi at a press conference attended by Get French Football News “We were already set to sign him when I was there [at Brighton], and there were big teams from the Champions League who were also trying to sign him as well.”
“He’s someone that understands football and knows how to play different positions,” added De Zerbi. “He played well on Madrid even if he started on the back foot – but he compliments Højbjerg really well. He does the simple things, in the right way.”GFFN | George Boxall – reporting from Marseille.
