Olympique de Marseille may spend the rest of the season far from the Commanderie in Rome, L’Équipe understands. An extended training camp is set to see OM’s squad train far away from the French city with the emphasis on escaping the toxicity of their current environment.
The plans for an extended training camp were revealed by L’Équipe prior to Saturday’s 5-1 win over Montpellier HSC. That overwhelming victory has not changed the plans. “It isn’t a punishment” insisted Roberto De Zerbi in a press conference attended by Get French Football News.
He added, “We decided that spending some weeks together would allow us to best prepare for what comes next. The players have accepted it. It won’t change their life but it could change their career.” Rome is the most likely destination for De Zerbi’s men, L’Équipe understands.
The camp would last at least a fortnight and could go on until the end of the campaign with the final gameweek coming 17/18th May. In order to adhere to LFP regulations, the team would have to travel back the day before matches in order to undergo the compulsory media duties.
