Marshall Munetsi struck the equaliser as Paris FC drew 1-1 at Lorient on Sunday, the on-loan Wolverhampton midfielder netting his fourth since arriving in mid-January.
L'Équipe notes his winter loan is fast becoming a smart move for PFC, after injury and scant minutes at Wolverhampton following his summer exit from Reims.
Since arriving he has made 11 appearances and quickly become central to midfield. Former Reims coach David Guion had argued he thrives on vertical runs and pressing, even operating like a second striker, and would raise PFC’s intensity.
Munetsi has coupled power with end product, scoring in draws at Toulouse and Lyon and in the win over Nice, before rescuing a point at Lorient despite a flat display.
Head coach Antoine Kombouaré praised his composure and willingness to break forward, adding he now scores important goals and imposes himself. Jonathan Ikoné joked that, despite talk of 30-metre strikes, all have come from inside the box, like a No 9.
Once a centre-back then a holding midfielder, Munetsi said Oscar Garcia and Will Still at Reims pushed him towards a box-to-box role. He also thanked coach Stéphane Gilli, whose advice prepared him for a welcoming dressing room.
His influence prompted suggestions PFC could consider a permanent move, and Munetsi did not close the door. He said he feels good, is focused on six matches left, and will talk at season’s end. His family enjoy Paris and his two sons were born in France.
