At Celtic Park, Yang maintained his impressive recent form by scoring twice, while Tomas Cvancara calmly converted a penalty for the second consecutive match to seal a 3–1 win for Martin O’Neill’s side.

Post-match, O’Neill shared his thoughts with Celtic TV, praising both the quality of the game and the performance from his players in securing another important victory after a gruelling run of four consecutive away matches.

The Celtic manager said: “The match lived up to its billing. It was a great performance from both teams, a great game of football. We knew it was going to be tough for us and that was the case. Motherwell are a fine side.

“We showed a lot of determination after giving them a goal to go one behind and it was a terrific performance. Yang was absolutely outstanding, he got the goals that he deserved and I thought Daizen was also brilliant.”

In his post-match presser with the MSM, O’Neill also heaped praise on Celtic-linked Jens Berthel Askou.

“He’s done super, absolutely super with his side,” O’Neill outlined. “Really good, really, really fine footballing team. And dangers all the time.”

“So they take some risks at the back, so do we. But you’re hoping to try and break the press, all those type of things. Imagine me talking about breaking the press at 74.”

“But all of those things, I think I said in the notes, has been a fantastic effort by them. Really, really fantastic. A really fine footballing team. And yeah, well done him.”

Next up for the Scottish champions is Dundee United at Tannadice on Sunday afternoon, which is the final game before the international break. Usually we dread these borefest breaks in the domestic schedule but this one can be welcome breather for the Celtic squad and indeed the management team after the most intense schedule in recent months.

Three points on Sunday and a little bit of revenge for our last visit there under Wilfried Nancy will be just the boost we need to see us through until the real football returns. It will also be nice to see the Celtic Board and the Green Brigade sitting together again at Tannadice!
