Mason Burstow joins Sheffield Wednesday on loan after promotion with Bolton | OneFootball

Mason Burstow has joined Sheffield Wednesday on a season-long loan from Hull City after helping Bolton Wanderers win promotion last term.

According to Sunderland Echo, the 22-year-old will spend the 2026-27 campaign at Hillsborough.

The striker came through Charlton Athletic’s academy, scored with his first touch in senior football, then earned a January 2022 move to Chelsea while finishing that season back on loan.

He spent 2023-24 on loan at Sunderland, making 20 appearances in all competitions and scoring once in a 3-1 win over Stoke City at the Stadium of Light. It was a challenging stint as he often led the line during an inconsistent campaign.

Hull City later signed him on a permanent four-year deal. He made 31 appearances in his first season with the Tigers before a loan to Bolton brought his most productive year and promotion.

Burstow said he is delighted to join a club he views on an upward path and wants to build on last season’s benchmark by adding goals and chasing another trophy. He praised the manager’s passion and detail, and hailed Wednesday’s vocal support.

Sporting director Simon Wilson called him a terrific addition, highlighting his 12 goals in a promotion-winning season and his work pressing, linking play and creating chances. He said the club are excited to welcome Burstow.

He will now link up with his new team-mates at Middlewood Road as preparations continue for the 2026-27 League One campaign.
