Real Sociedad celebrated their Copa triumph on the San Sebastián City Hall balcony, where head coach Matarazzo addressed supporters in Basque as Alderdi Eder was packed. The scene echoed the historic images of 1987.

Mikel Oyarzabal stepped out first, set the trophy on the balcony and greeted a crowd filling the square from 14.00. According to Diario Vasco, the captain thanked those who travelled from across Gipuzkoa and underlined they are Copa champions. Oyarzabal, who scored twice at La Cartuja, said Sevilla and the Cup will stay with them.

He reflected on a special week, recalling the four March elimination of Athletic and the memorable journey to Seville. He noted they could not celebrate five years ago because of Covid, and said they were now doing so together. He finished by leading the club’s rallying cry in Basque.

Matarazzo tried to speak fully in Basque, apologising for any mistakes, and the crowd applauded the gesture. He took charge in January and said he is happy with the team’s path, though he feels this is only the beginning. Supporters near the front replied with chants about the Champions League.

He praised the backing, saying the players can achieve big things with it, but that the team owed thanks for such impressive support. Earlier that morning he had breakfast at his usual cafés near Calle San Martín. He signed off by thanking fans for their passion and love, ending in Basque to huge acclaim.
