The Premier League have confirmed their match official appointments for this weekend’s Emirates Stadium clash between Arsenal and Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola and his players travel to the Emirates Stadium in fine form this weekend, having put together impressive cross-competition victories in their two games following the September international break.

In domestic Premier League action, it was a dominant 3-0 win over Manchester United last time out in the top-flight, with a brace from Erling Haaland and a Phil Foden header securing a much-needed three points off the back to successive defeats.

Then in midweek came the visit of Kevin De Bruyne and Napoli, in a frustrating affair that saw Antonio Conte’s outfit defend strongly in light of their early red card. That resolve would be broken by Haaland however, whose opener was then added to by Jeremy Doku in a 2-0 win.

Phil Foden has already pointed towards the similarities that City may see when they travel to North London this weekend following their Thursday night clash, describing Arsenal as perhaps the best team at the moment when sat in a structure.

As such, Manchester City will be well aware of the importance of being patient in front of goal and building phases of attacking play in and around the area, as they look to break down Mikel Arteta’s defensive unit.

And ahead of the meeting between Arsenal and Manchester City, the Premier League have now announced the list of match officials to oversee proceedings at the Emirates Stadium!

Match Referee

The Premier League have announced that Stuart Attwell will oversee proceedings between Arsenal and Manchester City this weekend, in what will be his fourth English top-flight outing of the new season.

So far this campaign, the 42-year-old has taken charge of four matches in total across competitions, issuing a total of 22 yellow cards and awarding two penalty kicks on Premier League and UEFA Champions League qualification duty.

Across the course of his career, the Warwickshire-born official has officiated 24 City matches, 17 of which have resulted in a victory for the Blues, one tie ending in a draw, and six in defeat. In that time, there have also been 40 yellow cards issued, three red cards, and five penalties.

The last time Stuart Attwell took charge of a Manchester City match came towards the end of last season, when Pep Guardiola’s side fell to a 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in the 2025 FA Cup Final at Wembley Stadium.

While that contest marked a historic moment in the history of the South London club, many City fans will remember the contest for the action that saw Dean Henderson at the centre of attention – and not for his penalty save to deny Omar Marmoush.

Many wondered at the time whether the Crystal Palace number one should have been on the pitch, after Josko Gvardiol had played a long ball over the top for Erling Haaland and Henderson stretched out a hand outside of the box to divert the ball away from the striker.

The video assistant referee checked the incident and allowed play to continue without any sanction, with the official explanation being that the direction in which Haaland was going made it a possible – but not obvious – goalscoring opportunity.

Assistant Referees

Accompanying Stuart Attwell on the pitch at the Emirates Stadium this weekend will be an assistant referee pairing of Constantine Hatzidakis and Nicholas Hopton, the Premier League have confirmed.

Video Assistant Referees

Supporting the on-field match officials from Stockley Park and the VAR Hub will be Video Assistant Referee, Jarred Gillett alongside Assistant Video Assistant Referee, Ian Hussin.

Gillet was also the Video Assistant Referee for the 2025 FA Cup Final between Crystal Palace and Manchester City.

Fourth Official

Monitoring the two dugouts on Sunday afternoon will be the Premier League’s appointed fourth official, referee Craig Pawson – keeping things in order between Mikel Arteta and Pep Guardiola.
