Valencia CF visited the newly promoted team CD Leganés on Friday, October 4th, with a 9:00 pm kick-off (CET) at the Estadio Municipal Butarque on Matchday 9 of LaLiga EA Sports.

Valencia CF started the game positively, trying to take control right from the start and staying disciplined at the back during the early stages of the first half. They attempted to break away on the counter and probe down the flanks at every opportunity, while CD Leganés tried to capitalize with quick bursts through the middle. The match was evenly contested and somewhat sloppy, with few chances for either side.

Valencia CF’s first chance came just after the half-hour mark when Luis Rioja, following a series of dangerous forays and corner kicks, fired a long-range effort that blazed over the crossbar. The remainder of the half passed without further incidents, as the cagey affair ended with both teams still goalless at the break.

The second half followed a similar script, with Valencia CF attempting to push forward but struggling to create clear-cut opportunities in the opposition half. Over the hour mark, Baraja made a like-for-like substitution, with S.C. Tenés making way for Diego López, followed by Hugo Duro and André Almeida being replaced by Dani Gómez and Enzo Barrenechea.

Valencia's best chance fell to Dani Gómez, who got on the end of a low cross from Diego López, but he failed to steer the ball on target. CD Leganés had a similar chance at the other end in the closing stages of the match and managed to rattle the upright with the last kick of the game.

In the end, Valencia CF were held to a lacklustre goalless draw away at Leganés. The team will be back in action in an international friendly against the Mexican national team on Sunday, October 13th, at 4:00 am kick-off time CET (8:00 pm local time).
