Leeds United striker Mateo Joseph has sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury while on loan at Real Mallorca, ending his season. The player said in a social media post that he has had to stop, and now needs to be patient and learn to compete differently as he rehabilitates.
Mallorca team-mates and supporters have shown support, with fans chanting his name after a 3-0 home win over Rayo Vallecano on Sunday.
Joseph returned to his native Spain in the summer window to spend the campaign with Mallorca after expressing a desire to leave Elland Road, though Leeds were not minded to sell him permanently.
His final appearance of the season was a famous victory over Real Madrid, in which he created the winning goal.
In his message Joseph reflected that injuries change daily routines as well as matches, and he intends to trust the process through good days and not so good ones. He thanked those offering support and said he will be back, aiming to return improved in aspects that are not always visible.
Ex-Leeds captain Liam Cooper, last season's promotion winner Josuha Guilavogui and fellow outgoing loanees Largie Ramazani and Joe Gelhardt were among the replies to his post.
