Matheus Bidu reflects on Corinthians' draw with Santos at Vila Belmiro

On the night of Thursday (22), Corinthians visited Santos at the Urbano Caldeira Stadium, better known as Vila Belmiro, for the fourth round of the 2026 Campeonato Paulista, and ended in a 1-1 draw. The goal for the alvinegro team was scored by Yuri Alberto, while Gabriel Barbosa found the net for Santos. With this result, the classic ended in a 1-1 tie.

In an interview with TNT Sports as he left the pitch, Matheus Bidu commented on the impact of the refereeing decisions on the outcome of the match.“With all due respect, I think it was clear, right, his mistake there ended up affecting the result. We fought the whole game, we had the lead and unfortunately, with a wrong decision there, it ended up resulting in their goal. But what can you do, right? We can't always make decisions for others,” said the player.

Next, the full-back analyzed Santos' behavior after the substitutions and explained the moment of greatest pressure suffered by Corinthians during the match.

“We know that automatically the opponent is playing at home, sooner or later they would have to take more risks. But unfortunately, as I said, you can't act for others, right? I believe there was a mistake there, a mistake that ended up resulting in their goal, which unfortunately hurt us now,” said Bidu.

Finally, Bidu evaluated Corinthians’ start to the season, talked about the sequence of results, and projected the team's preparation for the upcoming matches.

“I believe we are doing well, we’re playing great games, right? Unfortunately, we can't control the result every match. As I said, today could have been our second win, it would have been extremely important to win at the opponent’s home, in a classic. But unfortunately, what you saw happened, right? But respect the refereeing, he has his choice. We’re sad, we’re angry about the situation, but now we have to keep our heads up. We have another game on Sunday and we’ll try to fix this and, God willing, get the win away from home,” he concluded.

Now, after facing Santos away, Corinthians remain focused on the Campeonato Paulista. That’s because, next Sunday (25), at 8:30 PM (Brasília time), the alvinegro team visits Velo Clube at the Benito A. Castellano Stadium, for the fifth round of the first phase of the state championship.
