Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha has all but confirmed his transfer to Manchester United in his latest remarks about Ruben Amorim.

Cunha has been Amorim’s top target for the number 10 position and it appears the United head coach will get his man very early into the summer transfer window.

After weeks of speculation, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Sunday that United had struck an agreement with all parties for Cunha to seal a blockbuster switch to Old Trafford.

Before that, Ben Jacobs had relayed that Cunha will sign a five-year contract with the Red Devils. Jacobs added that if it all goes well, the Brazilian will start at United on July 1.

Cunha was one of the standout performers in the Premier League in the just-concluded 2024/25 season, despite Wolves’ struggles before the appointment of manager Vitor Pereira.

Cunha, who turned 26 today, plundered an impressive 15 goals and six assists in 33 top-flight matches.

The Wolves man spoke to CNN Portugal [via Daily Mail] and opened up on Amorim and his love for the 40-year-old coach.

He effectively confirmed that he will be working with Amorim at United next season, insisting that he wants to “conquer the world” together.

Asked if he had spoken to Amorim, Cunha tactfully answered, “Talking about him is easy, I think he’s a great coach and I wish him nothing but the best. I hope he conquers the world as he did Portugal.”

On conquering the world together at United, Cunha said, “Well, God willing, we’ll always do our best to help.”

Earlier this evening, the reliable David Ornstein reported that United have made contact with Wolves to submit an opening bid for Cunha.

Amorim’s side are looking to spread the payment of his release clause over five years, but Wolves are insisting it be paid within two years, as stipulated in Cunha’s terms.
