Matheus França gets fresh chance at Vasco as Renato Gaúcho’s rotation opens door | OneFootball

Renato Gaúcho has rotated heavily since taking charge at Vasco da Gama, and on Sunday 22 midfielder Matheus França returned to official action. According to PaponaColina, only three players are yet to feature, defender Carlos Cuesta, forward Walace Falcão and goalkeeper Daniel Fuzato.

França was introduced at 23 minutes of the second half, his first involvement under the new set-up. The cameo came against Grêmio.

Club president Pedrinho used the moment to urge supporters to back França, describing him as a player with significant potential.

The appearance ended a near two-month spell without game time in 2026, his previous outing coming on 29 January against Mirassol in the opening round.

His bid to turn things around arrives as his loan runs only until 30 June, and there is a strong internal inclination not to seek an extension with Crystal Palace in England. The agreement includes no purchase option, and he has struggled to adapt and secure a starting place since arriving in August last year.

Vasco continue daily preparations aiming to extend their recent unbeaten run under the new staff. França could get another chance against Coritiba in the ninth round of the Campeonato Brasileiro, on Wednesday at 20:30 at Couto Pereira.
