Matheuzinho eyed by Europe, Corinthians want to keep him till World Cup

Right-back Matheuzinho has caught the attention of European clubs in recent weeks, but the Corinthians board has decided to keep the player on the squad at least until the World Cup and blocked a departure at the start of this year. The information was first reported by Meu Timão.

According to the portal, there was even an official offer from a team from the Old Continent, which was promptly rejected by the club’s leadership, who see the number 2 as an important piece for the remainder of the season.

To strengthen the position, the club brought in Uruguayan Pedro Milans in 2026, who arrived on a free transfer after ending his contract with Peñarol. Since August 2025, when Léo Mana was loaned out, Timão had not had a natural backup for the right-back position.

Matheuzinho landed at Parque São Jorge at the beginning of 2024, transferred from Flamengo for 4 million euros, about R$ 21.4 million at the time. In his first year, he shared playing time with Fagner, alternating between starting and coming off the bench.

He became established in 2025. After finishing the Brasileirão on a streak of nine consecutive wins, the right-back secured his spot in the team led by Ramón Díaz and maintained his status under Dorival Júnior, becoming one of the pillars of the defensive system.

Since donning the black and white jersey, the defender has played 118 matches, 91 of them as a starter, with five goals scored and eight assists provided. During this period, Corinthians recorded 50 wins, 32 draws, and 36 losses with Matheuzinho on the field.
