Matheuzinho praises partnership, fans and Supercopa win

Corinthians won the Brazilian Super Cup title right at the start of the season by defeating Flamengo 2-0. After the final whistle, Matheuzinho spoke to the press on the field, highlighting the importance of the victory, the strength of the team, the relationship with teammates, and the presence of the alvinegra fans.

When asked about the significance of the title, especially against his former club, Matheuzinho emphasized the context of the decision and the importance of starting the season with a victory.“Man, every title is a different feeling, and because of everything that surrounded this match, it will be memorable for us. Of course, everyone said Flamengo was the favorite for the match, because of everything they did last year. But our team also has its values, and today we showed them. Starting the year with a title is very important for us. I hope it's the first of many this year.”

The player was also asked about Corinthians' recent history of overcoming the favoritism of opponents in important decisions.

“Let them keep underestimating us. For me, they underestimate us, and we're here quietly, working. Let us be!”

Another topic discussed was the strong presence of the Corinthians fans at the decision, considered the fourth great invasion in the club's history.

“Man, it's something we were talking about today at lunch, that this date will be memorable, that we participated in this moment. This craziness that the fans did. Not craziness, right? For them, it's normal, but for us, who see these videos from outside, it's the first time participating. More than a hundred and twenty buses, just of organized supporters. It's the passion these fans have for the club. The least we can do is respond.”

Matheuzinho further added, praising the fans' deserving of the title won.

“Another title for us, which these fans deserve a lot. And the more titles we can bring to them, the better, because they are sensational and deserve to smile more and more.”

Speaking about the respect Corinthians might gain on the national scene after defeating the team with the biggest investment in the country, Matheuzinho highlighted the team's change in status.

“I can't confirm that for you, because I'm not on the other side, but the probability is very high. It's not going to be just any team that will come and say 'let's play against Corinthians'. It will be Corinthians. This is good for us and makes us continue to raise our level, bringing joy to the institution.”

Finally, the player projected the upcoming challenges of the season and spoke about the Libertadores competition, advocating caution but not hiding ambition.

“We have to keep our feet on the ground. We know our team is capable. We will focus, yes, on competing in the Libertadores to win the title. It's an extremely difficult competition, but we will fight. We are increasingly surprising ourselves and everyone, and I hope the Libertadores is this year.”
