Matheuzinho tops Corinthians outfield minutes in 2025 season

Matheuzinho has established himself as the outfield player with the most minutes on the pitch for Corinthians this season. With recent performances against Internacional and Mirassol, the right-back surpassed the 4,000-minute mark played in 2025, becoming the second player in the squad to achieve this feat, only behind goalkeeper Hugo Souza, who has accumulated 4,835 minutes in the black and white jersey.

In total, Matheuzinho has amassed 4,206 minutes across 45 matches, being the undisputed starter in his position under the management of Ramón Díaz and later Dorival Júnior. His current performance represents a considerable improvement compared to last year, when the right-back played 52 times and totaled 3,816 minutes. In that season, he scored two goals and provided two assists.

In 2025, even with fewer games, Matheuzinho shows greater offensive impact. He has scored three goals and provided four assists so far, numbers that highlight his growth and prominence in the Corinthians scheme. The right-back has been a key player, especially in matches where Dorival Júnior adopts the formation with three defenders, which gives him the freedom to advance and participate more in attacking plays.

The recent phase is the best for the player since he joined the club. Of the seven direct goal involvements, six occurred in the last ten matches, showing his evolution within the new tactical system. At the start of the season, when Corinthians played with a line of four defenders, Matheuzinho had contributed only one goal and no assists in 35 games.

Despite the good individual phase, the scenario highlights a structural problem in the squad: the lack of competition at right-back. At the beginning of the year, the club still had young Léo Maná, who played 14 matches before being loaned to Criciúma for the Série B. Since then, Corinthians has not had another natural right-back.

In Matheuzinho's absences, Dorival Júnior has been forced to improvise. On some occasions, the coach has moved defender Félix Torres to the role, and on others, used midfielder Charles. The situation reinforces the team's dependence on the starter, who has become a key player both defensively and offensively throughout 2025.
