Matt Ritchie has a new club.

An official announcement by Reading FC on Thursday revealing that the former Newcastle United star has joined the League One club.

Matt Ritchie was released by United last summer and signed for Portsmouth.

Signing a two year contract with Reading FC, that will take Matt Ritchie up to just a couple of months short of his 38th birthday, as he turns 36 in 13 days time.

‘Reading Football Club is delighted to confirm the signing of Matt Ritchie, who joins the Royals as a free agent following the termination of his contract with Portsmouth.

The 35-year-old winger has signed a two-year deal at the Select Car Leasing Stadium, becoming the latest addition to the squad in this summer’s transfer window.

Ritchie arrives with a wealth of experience, having made more than 600 senior appearances across the Premier League, Championship and League One. A Scotland international, he is renowned for his work rate, leadership and quality in the final third.

Having begun his career at Portsmouth, Ritchie enjoyed standout spells with Swindon Town, AFC Bournemouth – where he played a pivotal role in their rise to the Premier League – and Newcastle United, helping the Magpies lift the Championship title in 2017.
