Speaking to Sky Germany, Borussia Dortmund advisor Matthias Sammer has directed some criticism towards the club’s management.

On Schlotterbeck’s comments, Sammer said:

“We must stop blurring the truth at the end in such a way that those who name the truth are the fools!”

Then adding a comment about the management, but without a direct target of the criticism:

“But if that weren’t the problem of Borussia Dortmund and everyone could see it, then we wouldn’t have the problem. It’s quite simple! (…) In the perception of what he does, there are people who have wonderful character traits, but no leadership qualities. They naturally get scared in the first moment.”

This isn’t the first time that Sammer has been critical of the club. Earlier this year, following a loss to Bologna in the Champions League, during his work as a pundit for Amazon Prime, the ex-Ballon d’Or winner’s comments were aimed at then-head coach Nuri Sahin.

Dortmund’s management under close scrutiny:

Sky reports that in response to those comments, the likes of Sebastian Kehl and Lars Ricken are being monitored closely at the Westfalenstadion.

Both have contracts until 2027, and there have even been discussions about whether the current pairing of Kehl and Ricken can continue beyond the summer.

The former Dortmund players do not see eye to eye on everything. For example, when it came to the hiring of Niko Kovac earlier this year, Kehl was in favour of appointing a different candidate, but Ricken’s preference was Kovac, who was eventually hired.
