Recent results and performances have allowed Alvaro Arbeloa to gain support for his continuity as Real Madrid manager beyond the ongoing season.

Despite that, the situation remains fluid and much will depend on whether Los Blancos end the campaign with silverware or not.

In case Arbeloa is asked to leave, Real Madrid have identified some potential replacements to take over as manager.

Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp remains the leading candidate, while former Tottenham and PSG head coach, Mauricio Pochettino, is also in the running.

Pochettino speaks out on Real Madrid links

Apart from Real Madrid, Pochettino has also been linked with a return to his ex-club, Tottenham, who are currently involved in the relegation battle in the Premier League.

The Argentine, currently the manager of the US Men’s National Team, has now broken his silence on the rumours of a possible move to Real Madrid or Spurs.

“No talks. We are very very focused here on the World Cup. Everyone knows that I have a commitment with the national team here. It’s not the point to talk about the future,” Pochettino said, as quoted by Ben Jacobs.

While Pochettino confirmed that he had not received any approaches so far, he left the door open for a move in the future.

“No one approached me. But who knows what is going to happen,” he said.

At the same time, he did not close the doors on continuing as the manager of the USMNT beyond the 2026 FIFA World Cup, saying:

“And by the way, we are open [to staying with the USMNT], why not if the federation is happy?”

As mentioned earlier, Real Madrid’s position on a managerial change will depend on whether Arbeloa leads them to trophies or not.

As things stand, the Merengues are second in La Liga, four points behind leaders Barcelona. In the UEFA Champions League, they await a challenging quarterfinal tie against Bayern Munich.
