Mauro Xavier attacks key Benfica figure for failing to appear alongside fans at Seixal | OneFootball

According to Glorioso 1904, Mauro Xavier, a Benfica supporter and commentator, criticised the way a recent protest unfolded and attacked a key club figure for not appearing with fans at Seixal.

He accepted that frustration among supporters is legitimate and that the season has fallen below Benfica’s standards, but said this was not the way to move forward.

He argued that the elected leadership, led by Rui Costa, and other club bodies should have been present to listen and respond. In his view, elected officials represent the members, not the SAD’s employees.

Xavier added that different forms of expression could have turned the moment into an organised show of unconditional backing for the team. Instead, he believes it created another pseudo crisis.

He concluded by repudiating the conduct seen at Seixal, saying it ultimately harms all Benfica fans, and argued the club is at its strongest when demands are channelled into support.
