Max Dowman added another landmark to his breakthrough season after becoming the youngest player ever to appear in a UEFA Champions League quarter-final.

The Arsenal youngster was introduced in the 76th minute of the Gunners’ 1-0 first-leg win away to Sporting CP, setting the new record at just 16 years, three months and seven days. He remained on the pitch as Kai Havertz struck a late winner to hand Arsenal the advantage heading into the return fixture.

In doing so, Dowman moved ahead of Lamine Yamal, who previously held the mark after featuring for Barcelona in the last eight at 16 years, eight months and 29 days during the 2023/24 campaign against SSC Napoli.

It is not the first time this season the teenager has rewritten the record books. Earlier in the group stage, his appearance against SK Slavia Prague saw him become the competition’s youngest-ever player.

Another night in Europe has now delivered another milestone - further evidence of just how quickly Dowman is making his mark at senior level.
