Maxence Lacroix is set to play his first World Cup with France and will treat fans in his childhood village, Ajat, by paying for pizzas as they watch Les Bleus.
France face Senegal at 21:00 on Tuesday in their 2026 World Cup opener. The commune plans a screening in the village hall. According to Ici Nouvelle-Aquitaine, the mayor said Lacroix asked his mother to arrange free pizzas for every match night, underlining his bond with the village.
Born in Villeneuve-Saint-Georges in Val-de-Marne, the 26-year-old defender grew up in Ajat, a community of about 300 residents in Dordogne.
He made his France debut on 26 March, a 2-1 win against Brazil.
Lacroix is not expected to start on Tuesday, but support from Dordogne will be strong.
