AC Milan find themselves in a position where they could risk losing the chance to stay at San Siro with Inter if they do not sort themselves out, to put it simply – something which can not happen.
The talk about a stadium has been present largely in the past year, and Milan have gone back and forth on ideas several times. So, the latest news should not come as a shock, even if it is growingly frustrating.
According to reports in recent weeks, it has seemed that the club were ready to work with the Nerazzurri and buy San Siro, but doubts have emerged about the Rossoneri’s intentions with San Donato remaining a viable option.
However, this comes with significant risk, as Mayor Sala has now written to the club asking to sort a ‘misalignment’, and Milan Press have relayed his message.
“Having learned from the media that there would be some points of misalignment between your companies regarding the purchase proposal and that according to the reported statement, the same will arrive ‘very shortly’, I trust and hope that this will happen.
“As I have pointed out on previous occasions, given also the importance of the project and the complexity of the regulatory, procedural and factual context in which it is inserted, this administration must be able to proceed to a timely planning and programming of its evaluations and decisions regarding the future of the current facility.”
Considering the cost of San Donato, if Milan do not want to be forced into an option, they must make their own decisions now, whilst they have that luxury.
