Memphis Depay starts for Netherlands before Corinthians clash

After suffering a thigh injury, Memphis Depay gradually returned to Corinthians and the Netherlands national team. For the next match for his country, however, coach Ronald Koeman has already confirmed that the number 10 will start as a starter against Finland.

Last Friday, the 10th, he completed a month without playing as a starter since the match against Athletico-PR, in the Copa do Brasil. For the Qualifiers, the coach responded about the striker's conditions for the important game: “Yes, he starts”.

Besides being a starter, the Corinthians number 10 is also responsible for penalty kicks. “Memphis is our first taker. If Memphis doesn't play, as happened on Thursday, then, with that formation, it's Cody and Wout (Weghorst) who need to decide that. It can depend on form or position. As long as they don't snatch the ball from each other's hands, that's a player's responsibility,” said Koeman.

The Dutchman's return after injury happened against Mirassol, in Corinthians' 3-0 victory. The technical teams maintained conversations and, as planned, he played for a few minutes against Malta for the Netherlands. Even so, he scored a goal in the 4-0 win.

Even being a starter in the second round of this FIFA date window, he is expected to be an option for Corinthians in the next Brasileirão round. The People's Team faces Santos on October 15th, Wednesday, at Vila Belmiro.
