Memphis Depay ‘to extend’ Corinthians stay by two years | OneFootball

Memphis Depay is close to agreeing a two-year extension at Corinthians as his deal ends on 31 July. According to ESPN, the Dutch forward has accepted terms to stay for the next two seasons.

Talks had dragged for weeks after he publicly expressed his affection for the Sao Paulo club before the World Cup.

Depay moved to Brazil in September 2024 after an 18-month stint at Atlético Madrid. The Netherlands’ all-time top scorer, with 55 goals in 112 caps, has played 79 times for Corinthians, scoring 20 and assisting 15. Fabrizio Romano indicates the new deal would keep him at the club until summer 2028.

The former PSV, Lyon and Barcelona forward had interest from Flamengo and Tigres in Mexico, where André-Pierre Gignac plays. Suitors looked to exploit a dispute over a possible unpaid bonus following the Campeonato Paulista title early 2025.

Injuries forced him to miss 27 matches last season. He featured for only around 50 minutes at this summer’s World Cup in North America, where the Netherlands went out to Morocco in the last 32. Despite limited minutes, he remains a leading voice in the dressing room and Corinthians are not minded to dispense with him.
