Memphis targets end to goal drought as Corinthians face Grêmio Sunday

Memphis Depay returns to the field this Sunday, the 2nd, against Grêmio, at the Neo Química Arena, with extra motivation beyond the pursuit of three more points in the Brazilian Championship. The Dutch forward is trying to end an annoying goal drought and avoid reaching the negative milestone of ten consecutive matches without scoring for Corinthians.

Memphis's last goal in the black and white jersey was on July 30, in the classic against Palmeiras, valid for the round of 16 of the Copa do Brasil. In that match, the number 10 was the hero of the 1-0 victory, securing an advantage for Timão in the first leg. Since then, he has played nine matches against Fortaleza, Palmeiras (twice), Athletico-PR (twice), Mirassol, Santos, Atlético-MG, and Vitória, without managing to score.

Despite the dry spell at the club, the forward maintained good form when wearing the Dutch national team jersey. For the Orange, he scored four goals, two against Lithuania, one against Malta, and another against Finland, in addition to contributing three assists in the same period.

In the 2025 season, Memphis has accumulated eight goals and ten assists in 42 games for Corinthians. These numbers make him the second top scorer in the squad, behind Yuri Alberto, who has 15 goals, and the team's leader in assists.

The match between Corinthians and Grêmio, valid for the 31st round of the Brasileirão, will be played at 4 PM this Sunday at the Neo Química Arena. Both teams arrive tied with 39 points, but Timão appears in tenth place due to a superior goal difference compared to the team from Rio Grande do Sul: -3 against -5.
