Valencia's agreement with Thomas Meunier has fallen through. Tribuna Deportiva reports he will sign for another club, probably Sunderland, on a two-year contract, compared with Valencia's one plus one proposal.
Valencia had settled terms a week ago after Spain knocked Belgium out, with only the medical outstanding. A lack of movement from the player's side after the World Cup had already raised alarms.
Corberán had prioritised Meunier over other candidates, leaving the club exposed when the switch collapsed. Valencia have now lodged an official bid with Aston Villa to take Andrés García on loan.
The interest in Andrés had existed weeks ago, but Corberán preferred a more experienced profile like Meunier. With the Belgian stepping away, the full-back must decide whether to accept Valencia's offer.
The club had felt calmer with Meunier's initial green light and with Foulquier beginning his recovery. Now a right-back is needed for pre-season after the exits of Thierry and Saravia.
Getafe were already well down the line for Andrés and offer European football. Feeling like a second choice could count against Valencia, who have arrived late after waiting on Meunier.
