LAS VEGAS – The 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup continued with Mexico and Costa Rica playing to a nil-nil draw in Group A on Sunday at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
Raúl Jiménez was denied by Keylor Navas on consecutive attempts, first in the 23’ as the Mexican striker attempted a header at the near post from a corner kick.
The Costa Rican goalkeeper then made a diving save in the 24’ to impede a strike from Jiménez off the volley from inside the penalty arc.
Raúl Jiménez missed a header from close range in the 56’ to spare Los Ticos, connecting with a cross from Roberto Alvarado just wide of the left post.
Navas finished the night with four saves and collected the first clean sheet of the 2025 edition. Mexico goalkeeper Luis Ángel Malagón earned his second consecutive clean sheet of the campaign.
The victory completes an undefeated start for Mexico with a 2-1-0 record in the Group Stage. El Tricolor advances to the Knockout Stage as the first-place team from Group A to face Saudi Arabia, the second-place team from Group D, in the Quarterfinals.
Costa Rica also boasts a 2-1-0 mark and finishes second in Group A on goal difference. Los Ticos will meet the United States, the first-place team from Group D, in the next round.
