Manchester United interim head coach Michael Carrick has reportedly made a significant adjustment to the club’s weekly schedule, marking a clear departure from the Ruben Amorim and Erik ten Hag eras.

Carrick’s fairytale start

Carrick has enjoyed a dream start to life since his appointment as Amorim’s temporary replacement.

The former United midfielder beat Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to the job and so far, he is showing why he was the right pick. Carrick has won all three games he has taken charge of, including beating Manchester City and Arsenal in his first two matches.

United’s most recent result, a 3-2 victory over Fulham, cemented the club’s bid to finish in the guaranteed Champions League places.

The Red Devils are determined to reclaim their place in Europe after a year’s absence, and their current trajectory suggests they are in a strong position to do so.

But Carrick’s impact goes beyond the result. United’s performances have also been impressive, having dominated in all three fixtures. The former England international has quickly implemented a bold, forward-thinking style of play, giving supporters a reason to dream again.

Talk has already emerged about the changes Carrick has implemented in training, notably shortening sessions while increasing their intensity.

Now, Samuel Luckhurst of The Sun has revealed another big modification sanctioned by Carrick.

Training overhaul

Luckhurst writes, “United players are now allocated a day off the day after matches, a break in post-match routine from the Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim eras.”

“Ten Hag and Amorim insisted on recovery days the day after games, with those who had not played at least 45 minutes put through a full training session.”

“Yet Carrick has decided to give United players the next day off following fixtures, with recovery sessions taking place the day the players report back at the club’s Carrington training complex.”

The report adds that there is now greater emphasis on individual work with specific players. The United squad also now arrives at Old Trafford later on matchdays. Previously, under Ten Hag, they would travel to the ground four hours before kick-off.

United return to action on Saturday at lunchtime when they host Thomas Frank’s Tottenham Hotspur.
