Manchester United caretaker boss Michael Carrick has revealed a key attribute of Matheus Cunha that hass left him very impressed.
Cunha was named on the bench for Carrick’s first game as interim head coach, which saw United beat Manchester City 2-0 last week.
Carrick opted for an attacking trio of Amad, Patrick Dorgu and Bryan Mbeumo. Dorgu and Mbeumo got on the score sheet while Amad was denied by the post, in what was a blistering attacking performance by the Red Devils.
Cunha was introduced in the second half and had an impact, producing a fantastic turn and drive inside the box before assisting Dorgu. The Brazilian thought he had notched a second assist when he created Mason Mount’s goal, but the strike was ruled out due to an offside call.
Carrick spoke to club media ahead of Sunday’s meeting at the Emirates with Arsenal and hailed Cunha’s response to starting on the bench last weekend.
The former England international remarked when asked about Cunha’s professionalism from the bench, “It’s big. It’s big. I think the disappointment, obviously, for all the boys who didn’t start the game.”
“You know, coming on and making a difference and feeling it. Whether that’s actually making a difference, and that’s something we spoke about this week, making a difference on the pitch or from the sidelines, or from the changing room. I’ve seen the boys supporting in the Directors’ Box and celebrating the goal.”
“For me to see that attachment, the connection from everybody, is huge, moving forward.”
Carrick continued, “Matheus, you know, made a big impact when he came on. The goal, obviously, but in terms of how he went about the game. I was delighted with him.”
“Again, it’s something, moving forward, for everyone to feed off and that goes a long way.”
Cunha will undoubtedly be hoping to start against Arsenal as United aim to secure another statement victory.
