Red Devils’ coach is benefiting from one routine source of goals
Michael Carrick said he cannot take credit for the understanding between Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro after the pair combined for Manchester United’s opener on Sunday.
United’s meeting with Aston Villa at Old Trafford came with huge implications in the race for European football, and the hosts ran out 3-1 winners after a frenetic second-half.
Neither side could break the deadlock in a pedestrian opening period, but Casemiro headed home from Fernandes’ corner less than ten minutes after coming back out for half-time.
The Portuguese then teed up Matheus Cunha to take his season tally to 16 assists, five of which were to Casemiro’s benefit.
Speaking at full-time, Carrick said he was grateful for the pair’s blossoming partnership.

"They have a really good understanding between them,” he began. “Some things you can coach, some things you can't.
"We're delighted to have [Fernandes]. He's proven over a period of time how impactful he is in the big moments.
“He's there all the time, he puts himself forward in training and games. You can always count on him to be there. It's a really good trait to have.
“He's been through ups and downs here but it's never knocked him. He was there today to make the difference.”
Sunday’s win leaves United third in the Premier League, three points clear of Aston Villa and six ahead of Chelsea.
Carrick added that he was thrilled with the win, but acknowledged that United’s job is not finished.
"We can enjoy winning. It's a good feeling and something we want to keep getting used to. We are keeping a lid on it and understanding where we are and what it takes to win games like today.
“We are in a good position at the moment but still a lot to play for.
“We looked a good team (against Aston Villa). Credit to them, they had a couple of spells in the game but for the most part we were dangerous. It was a big game coming off the defeat. The boys reacted incredibly well."
