Michael Oliver will referee Spain’s World Cup quarter-final against Belgium. According to Superdeporte, the English official has been appointed for the tie at the tournament in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
The 41-year-old has been a FIFA international since 2012, and has taken charge of more than 425 Premier League matches and nearly 50 in the Champions League.
He worked at Euro 2020 and Euro 2024, and is officiating at his second World Cup after Qatar 2022.
To date, Oliver has overseen eight Spain fixtures. They include the 2025 Nations League semi-final won 5-4 against France, and the 0-6 victory over Türkiye in September 2025 World Cup qualifying.
He will be assisted by fellow Englishmen Stuart Burt and James Mainwaring, with Brazilian Ramon Abatti as fourth official. The tie is scheduled for Friday 10 July at the Estadio de Los Ángeles, at 21.00, and will be the ninth Spain game Oliver has refereed.
