Brighton & Hove Albion have reinforced their defence with the signing of Michael Svoboda on a four-year contract.
The 27-year-old has joined the club from Serie B side Venezia after paying the player's €5 million release clause.
The Austrian is currently on international duty at the 2026 World Cup although he has yet to feature for Ralph Rangnick's side.
"Michael has enjoyed a fantastic season with Venezia, captaining them to the league title," Brighton boss Fabian Hürzeler said about his new signing.
"He has a number of attributes that we believe will see him adapt well to how we play, both in and out of possession.
"He also adds competition to an area we are looking to strengthen and with a number of clubs pursuing him this summer, I am very happy that he’s decided to come to Brighton."
In total, Svoboda spent six years at Venezia and featured 30 times for the club last season, chipping in with three goals.
