Michelle Agyemang has succeeded Luke Littler as BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year. The 19-year-old England forward, on loan at Albion, collected the trophy while recovering from a long-term knee injury.
According to TheArgus.co.uk, her year featured helping England retain the Euros after making her senior debut in April, when she scored within seconds against Belgium.
At the ceremony she thanked her team-mates, coaches and family for their support throughout her career, and expressed gratitude to God.
Agyemang’s breakthrough came during her first season with the Seagulls, with the BBC’s summary noting her part in Albion’s fifth-place WSL finish, the club’s best. Arsenal were encouraged enough by her progress to approve a second loan for this campaign.
Demonstrating an all-round game beyond a traditional number nine, she scored the winner at home to Everton before sustaining her knee injury in an innocuous incident while on England duty. She was named Albion’s young player of the year last season and has stayed close to the squad during her lay-off. Littler won the same BBC honour last year.
