According to Football Insider, the Teesside outfit are working on a deal to improve their forward options as they eye promotion to the Premier League.

The Championship side have previously been linked with a number of strikers this month, with that being an area of the squad that Kim Hellberg wants to bolster.

Joel Piroe emerged as a target, although they faced competition from rivals Middlesbrough, but the Dutchman’s preference is to remain at Elland Road for the time being.

This has led to the club moving onto other targets, with the market set to close on 2 February at 7pm.

Middlesbrough are working on a move for Ransdorf Konigsdorffer with just days remaining in the winter market, as per aforementioned reports.

The Ghana international has emerged as an option for the Championship team after his recent performances in the Bundesliga.

It’s understood that the club’s scouts have been impressed despite his tally of two goals from 21 appearances in the German top flight this season.

Boro are hoping to strike while the iron is hot by bolstering the squad with the team currently occupying an automatic promotion place.

Hellberg’s team are second in the table, five points clear of third place Ipswich, albeit having played a fixture more.

The team are also within three points of leaders Coventry City, giving them their best chance at promotion back to the Premier League since their relegation in 2018.

It remains to be seen what kind of fee it will take to convince Hamburg to part ways with the 24-year-old.

The forward’s contract is set to expire in the summer, which could open the door for an exit this month.

Next up for Middlesbrough is a home clash against Norwich City on Saturday in a 3pm kick-off, with the window then set to close on Monday evening.

Ransford Konigsdorffer signing has potential to boost Middlesbrough’s promotion bid

Konigsdorffer was a key part of Hamburg’s promotion to the Bundesliga, contributing 14 goals and two assists from 32 appearances.

If he can repeat that kind of goal scoring record straight away with Middlesbrough, then that's the kind of difference-maker that could give the team the edge they need.

It is a risk to hope that he will make a smooth transition to English football and immediately adapt to Hellberg’s style of play.

But if it works out, then this could prove a really shrewd deal to help the club get over the line for a top two finish.
