The 24-year-old wants the move to the Merseyside club after rejecting Crystal Palace and other suitors.

Personal terms have been agreed, and Everton could announce his signing this week.

The Blues could end up signing two players before Sunday, with talks also ongoing for a permanent deal for Chelsea winger Tyrique George.

The England youth international spent the second half of last season on loan with Everton, and negotiations between both clubs could be concluded by the end of this week.

Signing Hackney and George is a huge boost for the Toffees, and manager David Moyes will hope the Friedkin Group will continue backing him in the summer transfer window.

He is desperate to lead his side to Europe next season after last term’s underwhelming finish to the Premier League campaign.

Everton are also keeping tabs on West Ham United attacker Jarrod Bowen. He is expected to leave the Hammers following relegation.

The Toffees are in the market for several other players to boost their chances of securing European qualification.
