Manchester United finally had some good news when it came to goalkeepers last weekend.
In the summer of 2023, United completely renewed their goalkeeping department with the signings of Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir.
Unfortunately, both keepers have been absolute failures with both routinely making catastrophic error after error.
As a result, Onana was shipped off on loan to Trabzonspor in Turkey and Bayindir has been relegated to the bench by new signing Senne Lammens.
The Belgian put in an assured display in his debut since signing in the summer in the 2-0 victory over Sunderland.
Despite the positive performance, it is said that Ruben Amorim still wants to bring in a more experienced goalkeeper in the next transfer windows.
There have been continued links to Emiliano Martinez who was close to joining the Red Devils this summer.
What’s more, United are also said to be tracking Mike Maignan at AC Milan, with Chelsea also in hot pursuit of the goalkeeper.
Attractively, his contract runs out at the end of the season meaning whoever convinces him to sign will be able to bring in one of the most famous keepers in the world on a free.
TEAMtalk report that “Bayern Munich are stepping up their search for a long-term replacement for Manuel Neuer.”
It is also stated that, “TEAMtalk is aware that among the top names on the club’s shortlist is AC Milan’s goalkeeper Mike Maignan — one of the most consistent and complete goalkeepers in European football.”
What’s more, “Bayern view Maignan as the ideal heir, with Vincent Kompany highly appreciating his modern style and his ability to command the entire team from the back.”
Nonetheless, the Bavarians are very aware of the threat from the Premier League and know they will have a major fight on their hands to secure the signature of the French international.
