John Obi Mikel has once again urged Chelsea to sort out the goalkeeper position, and stated Robert Sanchez isn’t a keeper that will win trophies.

Chelsea are getting ready to take on Paris Saint Germain in the Club World Cup final at the Met-Life Stadium in New York on Sunday.

Sanchez is set to start the game, but the majority of Chelsea supporters want to see a new goalkeeper signed this summer.

Mikel urges Chelsea to adress goalkeeper issue

Sanchez was number one last season, and had some good games for the Blues, but once again he made a number of costly errors.

No goalkeeper made more errors leading to goals in the league than the Spaniard last season, and that hasn’t shown any signs of changing.

Chelsea missed out on the opportunity to sign Mike Maignan as they weren’t prepared to meet AC Milan’s £20-£25m valuation.

Sanchez hasn’t had a bad tournament, but Mikel did call for the Blues to sign Anatoliy Trubin after the last 16 clash with Benfica.

It remains to be seen if Chelsea will sign a keeper this summer, but Mikel has again urged the club to address the situation.

“The goalkeeper situation is a situation that needs to be sorted out,” he told talkSPORT as cited on X.com.

“We can’t go into the new season with Sanchez. I’m sorry but, I’m sorry. I’m sure that 99% of the Chelsea fans will agree with me that Sanchez is not the goalkeeper that will win us trophies. Definitely not.”

Petrovic joins Bournemouth and Penders set for Strasbourg

Whilst it looks like Sanchez is set to start the season as number one again, the Blues have agreed to sell Djordje Petrovic to Bournemouth for £25m.

Petrovic excelled on loan at Strasbourg and was expected to compete for the number one shirt this season, but much to the disappointment of supporters that won’t be happening.

Chelsea also have 19-year-old Mike Penders who they appear to view as their long term number one, and it looks like the teenager is closing in on a loan move to Strasbourg for the next step in his development.
