Milan and Roma Stars Injured in the Last Serie A Round

Milan and Roma cornerstones Mike Maignan and Paulo Dybala suffered muscular injuries over the weekend. The former will be sidelined for the upcoming Derby with Lazio.

The goalkeeper subbed off in the first half against Bologna and left San Siro on crutches after hurting his calf. However, he received good news from the tests, as he avoided a lesion. He’ll likely still miss a game or two, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs. Strahinja Pavlovic exited due to a thigh ailment, but it’s not too serious in his case as well.

While Maignan got away relatively scot-free, Dybala has been diagnosed with a low-grade thigh strain. He’ll be on the mend for two to three weeks, but Roma could act cautiously due to his injury history. He ruptured a tendon in the same area in the spring and also dealt with some discomfort during the summer.

The two aces aren’t new to spending time on the mend. The goalie has missed 40 matches due to injury since joining Milan, while La Joya about half of the possible games since transferring to the Italian capital. The respective coaches will turn to Pietro Terracciano, Stephan El Shaarawy, Neil El Aynaoui, or Tommaso Baldanzi in relief.

Our Take on Maignan and Dybala

Hopefully for the Rossoneri, it won’t be a repeat of the Rafael Leao situation, who was supposed to be out for a game or two due to a minor calf issue, and he’s still absent a month later. The Frenchman does get hurt a lot for a goalie. Instead, the Giallorossi star probably would still be at Juventus, or in a top European club, if it weren’t for his physical troubles.
